Safety & Booking

The Cruise Ships Say If We Don't Book With Them, We Might Get Left Behind. Is It Safe To Book With A Local Company?

Yes! 30,000 guests in 2025. Never missed a ship in 14 years of operation. Skagway Tours and all independent operators build their operations around the cruise ship schedule. We know when ships are arriving and departing and we get alerted to changes in the schedule so we can make necessary adjustments. Tours are scheduled to arrive back in town at least 45 minutes before the all aboard time.

And if the unthinkable happened, we couldn’t make it back in time, we will fly you to your next cruise destination.

What's your cancellation policy?

All tours are fully refundable, for any reason, up to 7 days before your scheduled tour departure time. For additional peace of mind, purchase the Klondike Prospector Protection Plan and cancel for any reason right up to the time of departure.

A full refund will be processed for all tours if your ship does not arrive in port — or if it arrives too late for your intended tour and we are not able to accommodate you on a later departure time.

Tours booked through a third party are subject to the rules and policies set by that operator.

All tours require proper identification, as we cross the border into Canada. Failure to bring the proper, valid, original government ID to enter Canada, and re-enter the United States, will result in a cancellation without refund. Please read our passport requirements for details.

Custom or private tour sales are final. The tour price is forfeited if canceled for any reason other than your ship not arriving in port, or for the ship arriving too late for us to accommodate your tour.

What is Prospector Protection?

Fees & conditions

Prospector Protection gives you peace of mind to cancel anytime, for any reason, for a full refund of your booking.

The Prospector Protection fee is based on the cost of each tour and varies by tour type. The fee itself is non-refundable. The option to add Prospector Protection is visible in the lower section of the booking form for every eligible tour.

It is only valid for bookings made directly with Skagway Tours. Bookings made through third parties do not qualify.

How to claim a refund with Prospector Protection

Contact Skagway Tours by phone or email at any time prior to the departure time, provide the booking number from your confirmation email and you will receive a full refund, minus the non-refundable Prospector Protection fee.

Do you have group rates?

We offer private charter options along with group discounts on our regular tours. Parties of 9 or more can select the “Friends & Family” rate and receive a discount on our pre-scheduled tours. Private charters are available for groups in our 14, 26, and 42 passenger busses.

Finding Us

Where do we find you?

Cruise guests will meet your awesome guide at the end of the dock/parking lot from your ship, look for the red bus and/or red Skagway Tours sign. Sometimes Barley may even make an appearance. Guests who are already in Skagway can be picked up at a variety of spots around town.

Passports & Requirements

Do I Need My Passport?

Our tours leave the United States and enter Canada. You need a passport, and may also need a visa to enter Canada and return to the United States. For example, Mexican citizens are NOW required by Canada to have a visa. Rules for entering Canada and the US vary depending whether you are driving or flying so please check the specific rules for your country of origin.

Failure to bring the correct documents could result in our driver-guide not permitting you on the tour, and you won’t be eligible for a refund. For more information: visit the Passports Requirements page on the Skagway Tours website.

On Tour

What Should We Wear?

This inside passage of Alaska is in a rain forest. Expect changeable weather. Bring layered clothing, some warm mid-layers, a waterproof jacket and footwear you don’t mind getting wet. We’re travelling from sea level to over 3,200 feet in elevation – and once we cross into Canada the weather often is warmer. Travelers in April, September & October might even get to experience SNOW!

Are There Restroom Breaks?

Yes: we stop several times along the way. That said, we always recommend making use of the facilities just before coming aboard. Most of the facilities are primitive, so keep that in mind! Remote latrines (in Canada) do not have running water or hand sanitizer; Wild Adventure Yukon & Yukon Suspension Bridge have normal bathrooms with running water.

Do you cancel for the weather?

Occasionally, if weather makes it impossible for your ship to dock, we will cancel and refund your tour. However, for all other situations, the weather is not a factor. Early season there might be snow, some days rain mixed with clouds and even sunshine up in Canada. It’s different, and amazing, every day.

Do you provide food on the tour?

For the Wild Adventure Yukon Tour, a BBQ, family-style lunch (or vegetarian option) is included at the activity center. For our other tours, check the tour description for options along the route. Choose the Triple Combo Tour, or White Pass Summit and Yukon Suspension Bridge Tour, both make a stop at the Bridge, which has a bistro cafe and excellent homemade Bison Chilli (and other options, too!). Otherwise, feel free to bring snacks and drinks on any of our tours.
